Apply for your ID this weekend

The Department of Home Affairs has extended its operating hours to include Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm until May 25, 2024. During this time, various services will be offered, including the collection of identity documents (IDs), processing of new applications, and issuing temporary identity certificates.

Additionally, the department will address issues such as duplicates, amendments, rectifications, and cases of individuals incorrectly marked as deceased, provided the necessary supporting documents are provided.

To reach remote areas, mobile offices will be deployed to deliver IDs and facilitate applications. Local offices will collaborate with stakeholders like councillors to communicate the dates, times, and venues of these visits.

To streamline services, the department has introduced the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS), accessible through their website, www.dha.gov.za. However, clients still have the option to visit offices without prior booking.

Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza encouraged individuals, especially first-time applicants and those who have received SMS notifications about their IDs, to utilize this opportunity to collect their documents.

Note that offices will be closed on April 27, 2024, due to a public holiday-SAnews.gov.za.
